What's a realistic all-in budget for a first caravan in 2026?

Every ad shows the sticker price, but I know that's not the real number. Once you add the tow gear, a decent set of essentials, insurance, and getting set up — what did your first van actually cost you all-in, not just the purchase price?

Entry-level new vans start around the $50k mark and climb well past $120k for fully-optioned off-road models, and good used vans span a wide range below that. But the sticker is only the start — budget realistically for a weight distribution hitch and/or brake controller if not already fitted, quality mirrors, levelling gear, hoses and leads, a first service, and annual insurance. Many first-timers are surprised the "getting ready to roll" extras add a few thousand on top before the first trip.
