How much does it cost to install caravan air conditioning?
A reverse-cycle roof-top air conditioner (Dometic, Houghton, Truma) costs $2,500–$4,500 supplied and installed in Australia. Under-bunk units cost similar. You will also need adequate battery and inverter capacity, or 240V site power, to run it.
Can I run caravan air-con off batteries?
Yes, with a modern inverter air-con and a lithium battery bank. Plan for at least 300Ah of lithium and a 2,000W+ pure sine inverter for short runs. Long off-grid operation needs 400Ah+ and a 500W+ solar array to recharge daily.
How often should caravan air-con be serviced?
Annual service is recommended — clean the filters and condenser coils, check refrigerant pressure, and inspect the gasket seal under the roof unit (a leaking gasket is the #1 cause of roof water damage). Most jobs cost $150–$300.
