We're about to buy our first van and keep going back and forth. New means warranty, current features and no one else's problems — but the price jump is real, and depreciation in the first couple of years hurts. Used means more van for the money, but you're inheriting whatever the last owner did or didn't maintain. For anyone who's already been through it: what did you buy first, and knowing what you know now, would you go new or used again?

The honest answer is "it depends on your appetite for risk and your budget buffer." A well-kept used van 3–5 years old is usually the value sweet spot — the first owner absorbed the steepest depreciation, and any early factory faults have typically been sorted. If you go used, budget for an independent pre-purchase inspection and a fresh service; those two things catch most nasty surprises. Buy new if you want a specific current layout, plan to keep it many years, and value warranty peace of mind over saving money.
